Why I Started Biohacking 10 Years Ago

During August, I celebrated my 50th birthday which definitely feels like a notable milestone, and one which exudes an array of emotions ranging from introspection all the way to intense gratitude. As I sat in my backyard on that sunny morning, with my organic coffee, listening to the birdsong and reflecting on everything in my life, I had a moment where I recalled what had inspired me to begin biohacking my health 10 years ago (just after my 40th!).

Given that I am now 50, and my biological age currently sits at 26, it feels like the appropriate time to give you unfiltered access into my own biohacking journey, with the aim of inspiring you to prioritize your health to the level I did back then, and have continued to ever since.

The year was 2014, I was 3 years deep into my stay in India, training Bollywood's most revered stars, along with high powered politicians, and my health started to deteriorate. For context, I was training with the usual intensity I thrive off, eating the same nutritionally dense foods, yet I could not get a good night's sleep no matter how hard I tried, my gut health was suffering badly and I had a cognitive haze which I could not shake. Clearly, something was up!

This sent me on a journey of self-discovery, to ascertain what the issue was, which ended up with me spending 6 weeks in Florida with Dr. Rick Sponaugle who had diagnosed me with mold toxicity. What I had been experiencing was an aggressive reaction to this horrible infection, which was hurting my internal health, and showing up in many ways throughout the day.

Thankfully, my treatment was successful, and during that time of investigation, I educated myself on longevity protocols which we now refer to as "biohacks." Today, I still ensure I have an ice bath and sauna every day, expose myself to red light therapy, ground myself, lie on my PEMF mat, mitigate EMFs, optimize my NAD and Glutathione status, meditate, block artificial light, and get to bed early in order to ensure my sleep remains no.1 on my priority list.

Biohacking is very much a lifestyle, with the objective of doing everything in our power to extend our healthspan, to improve overall quality of life in the short and long-term.

This should give you a better understanding of why when I co-founded Unmatched with Doug Miller, my insistence on including biohacking ingredients in our formulas, with a view to helping our customers optimize their health, alongside performance, was so important for me.

Personally, it has changed my life, and I know when people truly work on optimizing their health, it can change theirs too - I wanted Unmatched to help those who seek true longevity to look and feel way younger than their years.

The industry is full of people telling you how to get lean and build muscle, and those are of course arenas I also specialize in, yet there is little consideration for the longevity within that overall equation - I have made it my personal mission to carve out a road map for those who want to perform like a machine, look badass and yet, create a truly resilient body for the future so their health span is as prolonged as humanly possible.

With the right approach and dedication, I truly believe you can have a youthful body which continues to perform and feel healthy, within age ranges that others would simply dismiss. I hope this has left you feeling inspired to start making your longevity a real priority, as I have!
